To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

“Pay Attention, You Stupid People” – Ps 94

Yes, the psalmist actually wrote that in a psalm.  Today that would be so not politically correct.  Sounds too harsh.  But did it fit the situation?  What situation?

Evil had basically been unplugged.  There were those killing widows, orphans and vulnerable people.  They crushed and destroyed those of the people of God.  Evil ran violently like an enraged bull in a kindergarten class.  Carnage was everywhere.

And the justification of those doing these things?

“No one will know.”

“Even God doesn’t see or pay attention.”

They say God doesn’t pay attention.  So the psalmist says, ‘no, you pay attention’ (Ps 94:9-10).

Can the One who shaped the ear not hear, the One formed the eye not see?
The One who instructs nations, the One teaches man knowledge–
does He not discipline?

When people stop respecting/fearing/honoring God, violence goes unleashed.  But God is who He says He is and He will not allow evil to go unpunished (Ps 94:23).

He will pay them back for their sins,
and destroy them for their evil.
The LORD our God will destroy them.

If they do not repent before God for their actions, they will face God.  Maybe in this life, but certainly in eternity.  Despite contrary opinion at funerals, all people do not go to heaven.  God is just.  We will face that justice if we don’t have Jesus.

And that is the comfort for the righteous.  Those who trust in him are in His care (Ps 94:14-15).

The LORD will not forsake His people or abandon His heritage,
for justice will again be righteous.

What a statement.  “Justice will again be righteous.”  Right now justice is not for righteous.  Those who do evil seem to get very little punishment, yet those who live in liberty and do what is right seem to be attacked.   But once again God will reset the tables.  But sometimes it takes God allowing people to see evil unveiled.   But even in this, there is hope for the upright (Ps 94:19).

When I am filled with cares,
Your comfort brings me joy.
