To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Despising the Honored Fool – Esther 3

Esther’s uncle Mordecai saw right through the foolish Haman.  We don’t know what he saw, but we know Mordecai despised Haman.  So much so that when an edict went out from the king that everyone should bow before Haman, Mordecai refused.  The pompous Haman was enraged.

He probed around and found out that Mordecai was a Jew.  And instead of just wanted to kill Mordecai, he decided he wanted to kill all Jews.  Perhaps he always hated Jews and this was his excuse.

Because Haman was the highest official and trusted person in the king’s cabinet, when Haman went to the king he told them there was a people that rebelled against the king.  Because of it Haman said it was best if all of them were killed off.  The king basically said “whatever” and blessed Haman’s decision.  The king gave him his signet ring and the deal was officially sealed.  The Jews were set to be annihiliated once and for all.

To make sure everyone got the message, the event was to take place a year from the point of the writing of the law.  That way the couriers could get to the farthest reaches of the empire and make sure everyone knew.  On March 7, 473 BC, everyone was to kill any Jew they found.

The city of Susa was bewildered.

The Jewish people were in great distress.

What we see here is that there is always a plot to kill off the people of God.  It has been a mission from satan from the beginning to steal, kill and destroy.  We see that throughout the history.  The Jewish people have always been targeted, and since Christ, it’s the Jews and the Christians who are always targeted for destruction.

But God will never let his people be snuffed out.  Never.  There are times that war and such as brought great destruction, but there will always be a remnant.  His promises will always be fulfilled.

Terrible times are ahead of us now.  The Bible says that there will be great persecution in the end days.  Many will fall away.  Others will be killed.  But God will always preserve a remnant.  The church, his bride, will never be snuffed out.  Because he is coming one day to get her.

Make no mistake.  The enemies of God will try to destroy the people of God.  They will try valiantly.  Suffering is something promised for the people of God.

But he stands firm to the end will be saved.

What We Learn from Esther

This is one book of the Bible that reads like an action thriller movie.  Even knowing the story, I couldn't hardly put...
