What does revival look like? What is the pathway there?
“His salvation is very near those who fear Him, so that glory may dwell in our land” (Ps 85:9).
Israel had reveled in so much sin over the centuries that God finally said enough and withdrew his hand of protection. Very quickly they experienced how bad things could become if left to receive the full fruit of their actions.
As all these situations the people cry out to God and turn back to him. God in His time and wisdom relents.
And what is new that is on the scene again?
“Faithful love and truth will join together; righteousness and peace will embrace” (Ps 85:10).
It’s when love and peace are equally married to truth and righteousness. You cannot have one without the other. If you claim “love” in all situations, but it is not kept within the parameters of God’s truth, what is “love” can become evil. If truth and righteousness exist but there is not love and peace, “truth” can become a place of evil. It’s when these two walk together, a loving heart and God’s ultimate truth that reformation occurs.
God is not looking to bring judgment. His mercy triumphs over judgment. His salvation is near. But the people of God must repent and turn to Him, know his ways and his laws, and live accordingly, caring for those around them.
We have a long ways to go.
