To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

You are Kind, and Ready to Forgive – Ps 86

One of my college professors was asked her advice on the secret to a good marriage.  Her response?  Kindness.

We forgot how powerful kindness is in our relationships.  Kind words, kind actions, kind care.  Yet it is powerful.  God is kindness.

God is also ready to forgive.  He is not a grudge-holder or ready to judge.  He delights to show mercy and is ready to forgive.

Now for some they misunderstand his kindness and forgiveness.  They believe they can live and do right as they see what is right.  But let’s make no mistake.  God is also holy and just.  This very set of psalms was written when God’s people were suffering because they had thrown off God thinking they knew best.  God allowed them to see what that was like and it wasn’t pretty.  God’s kindness doesn’t mean he is a pushover God.

It does give pause for us to think.  Kindness doesn’t mean we need to be trampled on.  In fact if you look, every single animal on earth has a way to defend itself.  Why?  Because God knows others bringing harm is real even in the animal kingdom and self-defense is part of life.

But the question remains, are we “kind and ready to forgive” like God?  Or are we ready to close our hearts, drift away and move on.
