To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

Hurry to Help Me, Lord – Ps 70

In this psalm, David is being hunted. He talks about those “who seek my life” (Ps 70:2).

This is the short psalm in brief:

  1.  Hurry Lord to deliver me! v. 1
  2.  Let those who wish me harm be driven back and humiliated! v. 3
  3.  Let all those who seek you rejoice and declare, “God is great!” v. 4
  4.  I need help, please hurry.  Yes, do not delay. v. 5

When your life is on the line, you need help urgently. This is David’s prayer.  And it’s not just a request to hurry, but as always in the psalms of David, there is the proclamation of the goodness of God and David’s trust in Him.

Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let those who love Your salvation continually say, “God is great!”

You are my help and deliverer” (v. 5)

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that these psalm are ones that were sung in the assembly.  The lyrics did not deal with easy issues, yet they resonated deep in the hearts and souls of the people.   I would love to see songs like this be made songs again, ones that people can pray and sing.

Because this kind of song is one we need to be praying and singing these days.
