To Know Jesus and Make Him Known

When Your Help Needs Help – Is 20

Man’s help is useless.  That’s what David said on several occasions.  So it’s not wise to put your trust in them.

It’s easy to think that super-powers will come to the rescue of other nations.  Egypt and Cush (Ethiopia) were those super powers of that day that everyone thought they could rely upon.  An alliance with them seemed like a certainty for safety.  But it wasn’t.

Cush and Egypt were carried off themselves.  It made for bad times for those who had put their trust in them.

Those who made Cush their hope and Egypt their boast will be dismayed and ashamed.  And the inhabitants of this coastland will say on that day, ‘Look, this is what has happened to those we relied on and fled to for help to rescue from the king of Assyria!  Now, how will we escape?'” (v. 5-6).

It’s a terrible thing when what you hoped in now needs help.

If you put your hope in your pension, your savings, your retirement fund–beware.

If you put your hope in other nations to come rescue you — beware.

If you put your hope in your government or political party – beware.

Hope in the Lord.  All other hopes will eventually fail.

You’ve been warned.
