It’s in a desert. Literally. David is in the Wilderness of Judah, presumably running from his enemies. And while there are many things he could thirst for, he thirsts for God (Ps 63:1-2).
God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You.
I thirst for You;
my body faints for You
in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.
Sometimes I think suffering drives us to understand what is important. That is, suffering that isn’t distracted. There’s a lot of suffering now and crazy now and now most all of us are distracted with our many hours on our devices.
God, you are my God; I eagerly seek You.
David is in the desert. His enemies are hunting him. But his response is worship
- I will praise You as long as I live (Ps 63:4)
- My mouth will praise You with joyful lips (Ps 63:5)
- I will rejoice in the shadow of Your wings (Ps 63:7)
When we are concerned, worries, anxious, stressed, wondering how the direction of the world is going to unfold, do I praise? Do I worship? Or do I watch more news and YouTube videos?
It’s not a call of condemnation, it’s a call to worship. To remind ourselves no matter how bad things get…
“I follow close to you. Your right hand holds on to me” (Ps 63:8)
His right hand holds on to us lest we slip. Our part is to follow close.
Hold me close Lord. Hold me close.
