Non-Binary People in the Bible? Uh…no. – Mt 19:12

For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
Mt 21:12

Going around social media right now is this verse as indicating that somehow “non-binary” people are in the Bible. So not true.

First of all what is a eunuch? A eunuch was a man who had all or part of his genitalia cut off. This was done to captives that worked in the palace of foreign kings to prevent them from reproducing, so the women wouldn’t be tempted by them, and they become disposable as without descendants no one could avenge their death. In may ways making someone a eunuch was part of an act of war.

So what about those that are born this way or choose to live like this? Does this make people non-binary?

NOT AT ALL.

Look at the context.

Jesus is talking about marriage and divorce. He basically tells them that they need to stay the course and not divorce easily.

Then the context immediately prior to this verse is

“The disciples said to him, “If his is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry” (v. 10).

Then Jesus launches into his response about eunuchs. He is contextually talking about those who do not marry. There are some who are born with no desire to marry and live a life of celibacy. Other have celibacy forced upon them as an act of war. And some choose celibacy (like Paul) to devote themselves wholeheartedly for the kingdom.

Furthermore we know that Jesus isn’t endorsing multiple genders or non-binary status as he says, IN THE SAME CHAPTER IN THE SAME DISCUSSION, “the Creator made them male and female” (v. 4). End of story.

The Bible only recognizes two genders – male and female. And so should we.

They’re a very wicked agenda behind this redefining of genders.

Stand your ground.
